Purpose: Mohini Pheromone Lure for trapping of male adult moths of Spodoptera frugiperda (commonly known as Fall Armyworm or FAW).

Target Crops: Maize / Corn.

Impact: Fall armyworm (FAW) Spodoptera frugiperda is a most destructive pest of maize. It is a strong flier and can fly over long distances in search of host plants. FAW larvae are voracious feeder that consumes maize from seedling emergence to its maturity and defoliates extensively causing yield loss. Larvae sometimes bore into the ear through the husk and feed on kernels. When the larvae are very numerous, they defoliate the plants, acquire an “armyworm” habit, and disperse in large numbers, consuming nearly all vegetation in their path. Monitoring / mass trapping of FAW using pheromone traps is an effective strategy in suppression of pest load and for decision-making in pesticide applications in integrated pest management.

Instruction to Use: It is recommended to be used with Funnel Trap or Moth trap. The Trap should be affixed to a long stick and placed 1-2 ft above the crop canopy level. Thus, the height should be adjusted as per the stage of crop growth.

In moth trap, it enter the trap through the radial openings of the canopy and gets disoriented, falls into the bucket through the funnel. The bucket should be half filled with water mixed with some surfactants.

Time of Use: For monitoring 5-6 Lure per Acre. For mass trapping around 12 Lures per Acre are recommended. It is advisable to place the trap and lures coinciding with the time of initial attack of pest. Lure gets activated in 2 days and is effective for 45-60 days. For effective results, replace the Lure after 45 days.
