The red palm weevil (Rhynchophorus ferrugineus), also known as the Asian palm weevil or sago palm weevil, is a major pest affecting palm trees, including coconut, date, and oil palms. Adult beetles are large, ranging from 2 to 4 cm in length, and are typically rusty red, though various color variants exist. The larvae of this weevil can tunnel up to a meter into the trunk of palm trees, causing severe damage and eventually killing the host plant.
